Wick's Review
Summary -
Pretty Bad
1.5
Kevin Hart mugs strenuously throughout Ride Along 2, but it’s not nearly enough to give the movie comedic lift. Indeed, there’s only one other comic actor in the cast with him and that’s Ken Jeong, who is more annoying than funny. Everyone else is a straight man, which means the movie simply isn’t very funny.
Bottomline: Bad Airplane Movie
Acting -
OK
2.5
Ice Cube plays his usual angry and irritated shtick, to little effect.
Kevin Hart churns out movies on what seems like a monthly basis. His loud and frantic style can be funny with the right project and in small doses, neither of which is the case here.
- Tika Sumpter is lovely as his fiancé. She’s got screen presence, as she showed in Get On Up.
- Benjamin Bratt is an effective Mr. Big, but so what.
- Olivia Munn has a hottie-next-door thing going, but is largely wasted in RA2.
- Ken Jeong’s career is a testament to persistence more than actually being funny.

I saw Ride Along 2 on an airplane, so its native profanity was all stripped out. In fairness, it might have been funnier in its original R-rated incarnation.
