When someone’s bad-mouthing HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, I’m usually one to defend it. However, one still cannot deny it’s not the best flick ever made. I enjoy HSM, just not in love with it. If one’s looking for a jolly good time, care-free and all that jazz, give HSM a chance; I’m sure you’ll like it. But don’t go into this movie with a thick head and serious expectations. HSM boasts some pretty decent dance numbers with a thin but serviceable plotline, and all right performance attempts by our stars. Recommended out of funness.
Listen, dude, it’s Disney Channel flick. One can’t seriously be judging the actors too much. For this type of movie, they perform fairly well; surprisingly – the guys moreso than the girls (however, that does not deter my love for Vanessa Anne Hudgens). Overall, serviceable, and above the average Disney movie.
As a direct-to-television production, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL could boast it has a higher production, er, ‘quality’ than most of their enterprises (with the exception of, say, their FAMOUS JETT JACKSON TV movie). However, that doesn’t mean it recieves high rankings.
As a Disney Channel Original Movie, well – it lacks pretty much everything that makes the word ‘edge’.
Oh, y’know, about a real as the dudes in GREASE jumping around in unison with the exact same dance moves that compliment their song.
