Summary - OK 2.5

The Raid on Entebbe stands as one of the great military feats of all time. Then there’s 7 Days in Entebbe, which stumbles along as a just OK recreation of that legendary event. Leftist in orientation, this Jeff Skoll production¹ tells a full story about the communist kidnappers and their radical Palestinian comrades, yet only touches on the stories of the heroic and intrepid Israeli rescuers, a near fatal blow for most any movie.

Yoni Netanyahu led the amazing Raid on Entebbe and was famously the only casualty among the IDF, killed in action during the greatest moment of soldiering in Israeli history. His younger brother – Bibi Netanyahu – much more famously has become Israel’s longtime Prime Minister. Yet, Yoni is little more than a cipher in the hands of second-rate director José Padilha and political-hack writer Gregory Burke.

Codenamed Operation Thunderbolt, the raid was a real thunderbolt. This movie is more like a long fart.

Acting - Good 3.0

Rosamund Pike & Daniel Brühl do their moviestar best to infuse life into a dour pair of Red Brigade losers. I always say that Rosamund Pike improves any movie she’s in. She does here, but that’s not saying much.

• Lior Ashkenazi cuts a handsome figure as Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
• Mark Ivanir as Chief of Staff Motta Gur
• The British Eddie Marsan is especially phlegmatic as Shimon Peres.
• Angel Bonanni barely gets a chance to act as Yonatan Netanyahu. Pity.
• Nonso Anozie chews the scenery no more than necessary as the flamboyantly insane Idi Amin.
