WordSlinger's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

Surprisingly entertain, if a bit self-serving to Stephen Chow, who produced, directed, and stars as the film’s hero. A interesting mix of martial arts and cartoonish parody of artsy Chinese martial arts epics.

Acting - Barely OK 2.0

The acting is… okay, not great, everything is exaggerated for humorous effect and some of the characters are a bit annoying.

Male Stars - Barely OK 2.0

Female Stars - Barely OK 2.0

Female Costars - Barely OK 2.0

Male Costars - Barely OK 2.0

Film - Great 4.0

Direction - Great 4.0

Dialogue - Great 4.0

Music - Great 4.0

Visuals - Great 4.0

Edge - Risqué 2.1

No sex, rudeness is down to a minimum, but the violence is pretty high, even if it is sometimes cartoonish, there is quite a bit of blood at times, a character is beheaded, a cat is cut in half (though you only see the shadow and a spurt of blood).

Sex Innocent 1.1

Violence Savage 3.6

Rudeness Polite 1.5

Reality - Supernatural 3.2

Like the Chinese epics it is parodying, the action sequences and fights are very exaggerated and unrealistic. Characters can make flying leaps hundred of feet high, run faster than cars, use music to create phantom weapons, ect.

Circumstantial - Supernatural 3.2

Biological - Supernatural 3.2

Physical - Supernatural 3.2
