Triplebeard's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

The Answer to the everyday man’s musical it’s a good quality fau-musical, a kick in the pants with a jukebox in your pocket. this movie is a karaoke with dancing. yet its fun, funny and funtastic? (ya new word for the day). all in all its a pretty decent flick. even for people who are not musical fans

Acting - Very Good 3.5

Romance and Cigarettes is a well rounded film. the acting is pretty decent, but the musical is the side project here. its mostly a well told tale about recovering a lost marriage

Male Stars - Very Good 3.5

James Gandolfini is a shocker in the role of Mr. Murder. when i first turned this on i didnt expect good things from this yet from the first 10 minutes of his fau-singing and acting i was hooked.

Female Stars - Very Good 3.5

Susan Sarandon plays a kitty i wouldn't mind playing with. she is full of life playing a hurt housewife/dress maker who goes on the warpath to find the woman who wrecked her marriage. along with Kate Winslet as the fiery hot Tula in this worker-class musical the lady representation of lead actresses is a knock out.

Female Costars - Good 3.0

throw a little Mandy Moore, Mary-Louise Parker, Barbara Sukowa and Elaine Stritch and you have a powerful supporting team in the girls side. they did just as they were cast to do..."Co Star" they don't over shadow the main story of infidelity with there sub plot stories and make a nice addition to the cast.

Male Costars - Great 4.0

Christpher Walken is a revelation in this as well but when is he not? he seems to give a little laugher to any of his light hearted roles he plays now a days especially when he dances around like he did in this movie. he has a song in this movie by Tom Jones he sings along with telling the story of his girl and its great!and we can't forget Steve Buscemi as the wonderful yet perverted Angelo the co-worker of Mr. Murder. he did a good job in this role.

Film - Good 3.0

like i mentioned before this is a good quality fau-musical a kick in the pants with a jukebox in your pocket. John Turturro really pulled this one out of his hat with the quality production of the film.

Direction - Good 3.0

John Turturro did a stand up job as writer/director of this project here. and is now on my list of writer/director to give a shot at future projects of his.

Dialogue - Good 3.0

Music - Really Great 4.5

soundtrack is great. I'm not really a fan of musical because they tend to sing allot (go figure!) yet i can sing along to this one because they have some great songs from the era's out there. my favorite of course though is the Christopher Walken flash back song.

Visuals - Good 3.0

Edge - Risqué 1.7

there is a little suggestive material here but that pretty much is it. not as much as you would think for a movie about a guy cheating on his wife.

Sex Innocent 1.5

bleh. iv seen more in a church

Violence Fierce 1.8

tree smashing to the face! nuff said

Rudeness Salty 1.8

Reality - Surreal 3.0

its a slight truthful world. just imagine an average movie about a real life affair with a working class man with singing added in.

Circumstantial - Surreal 3.0

Biological - Surreal 3.0

Physical - Surreal 3.0
