Not only was this film my favorite movie of 2008, this is right up there with some of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
****Minor Spoilers****
Clint plays an old widower who could care less ’bout what anyone thinks of him. He has a racist attitiude and is very prejudice towards his new asian neighbors. However, when a local asian gang threatens, Clint pulls out his gun and says a new classic line “Get off my lawn.” The family next door thanks him by giving him food and their son offers to help Clint around the house. As Clint learns he has Cancer, the Asian gang continues to hurt the family next door. When they go to far, Clint realizes what he needs to do. He has to face off with that gang and finish this once and for all.
Clint is at the top of his game. The fact that he wasn’t nominated for an oscar is just an outrage. Sadly, though, I can not say the same for the rest of the cast. Some of them are OK, some of them seem lost, and some of them are just too bland. But keep in mind none of them are even close to god awful.
Very good direction from Mr. Eastwood. The dialogue is good as well, written BY Clint FOR Clint. The title song written and performed by Eastwood is just mesmerizing.
Yeah, it really was a triumph considering it was ol’ Clint’s last movie as an actor.
Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review
As someone who also thought Gran Torino was Perfect, welcome to the club. Like you said “this is right up there with some of the best movies I’ve ever seen.” I agree, though it’s interesting that several other WikPik reviewers – some of whom I have on my Trusted list – didn’t agree. Go figure.
