Whew!! Where do I begin?!?! Well, for starters, it truly is sad to see such a talent like Roberto Begnini involved in such garbage like this. Even though this whole film is his own fault. Despite some good scenery and the fact that its the closest to the book of all the adaptations, the film suffers from two major things:
1. The poor choice to dub this Italian produced feature with American voice actors for American audiences.
2. Begnini’s forced, manic, and self-humilating portrayal of the wooden puppet.
This was Begnini’s follow up to his Academy Award winning film Life is Beautiful and this quickly tarnished his reputation. If there’s an Italian version out there, it may help with the humor. However, save your time and just watch the Disney version.
The acting is terrible considering the dubbing. Begnini is just far too old for the role. Grown men just shouldn’t play little boys.
Some good visuals and cinematography, but not enought to save the film.
Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review
Nice review, ma man. I remember when this came out, and even then I thought it looked bad.
