The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was one of the most bizarre and imaginitive film I’ve seen… ever. It was executed very well, except for the pretty loose sory line. A lot of questions have to be asked at the end, but I won’t give examples since they’ll contain spoilers. Something very much worth mentioning were the amazing visuals. Every time a character entered “the imaginarium”, I got extremely excited as to what I’d be seeing next. The fantasy worlds were as beautiful as they were bizarre. Some parts were so creative, and so amazing, that I almost exploded. No joke. Ok maybe not, but they really were amazing. Oscar for best visual effects, maybe?
On the other hand, there’s the acting. Since Heath Ledger passed away during the production of this film, rewrites went into action, causing Johnny Depp and Collin Farrell to replace him. Anndddddd, they did a pretty good job, and the difference in their faces was actually part of the story.
I don’t think this is of Gilliam’s BEST, but I do think it was pretty good, even though its not the best movie to remember Heath Ledger by.
Just a little side note… SEE THIS MOVIE IN THEATERS!! Some of the scenes in the imaginaruim look wonderful on the big screen
