Demona's Review

Summary - Great 4.0

This film is about George Simmons, a comedian that just found out that he was dying and is trying to find meaning in his life; and Ira Wright, an up and coming comedian, who, until he started taking verbal swings at Geogre during one of his acts, wasn’t very funny. George came to Ira in hopes of creating a bond of sorts, he was a lonely man and didn’t know how to have a better life with the life he has. Ira worked at a supermarket in a deli and he just wanted to get out of that life and make a name for himself in the world of comedy, so George was his ticket out. This film is for great for people of all ages, the only thing is, keep your kids out for some of the scenes. George is something of a playboy, if you know what I mean.

Acting - Really Great 4.5

Adam Sandler, as George Simmons, took his acting to a new level. His role as a comedian, suited him due to his on going career as an actor and international funny-man. His role was convincing; that, you wanted to dislike him in some parts of the film, but because of the type of person he is, you couldn’t help but want to keep following him around (like the rest of his fans in the film. Ira “Wright” Weiner, was played by Seth Rogen, as a comdien that we all know and love from films such as “Knocked up” and “Superbad”, his role in the film suited him well, considering tha he isn’t really known for “serious” type of roles. Seth and Adam really made this film their own, and brought back the struggles that everyday people go through, whether it’s trying to survive a dyer situation, or just trying to make a name for yourself, they brought rreality back into the film industry. Leslie Mann played Laura, she is George’s “one-who-got-away” girl. Leslie’s involvement in comedies, such as “George of the Jungle”, “40 Year Old Virgin”, “Knocked Up”, and “Big Daddy”, really helped her out in the film. Looking at her in the movie and seeing her interact with the other characters, made her character a vital part of the puzzle. Her chemistry with Adam and Seth made the film more relatable.

Film - Great 4.0

The fact that they brought back most of Adam’s original works into the film, videos and jokes, really impressed me. It gave George a back story, even if the actor playing him is actually showing his life in the lime-light. There were no fancy camera angles or effects, just good ol’ fasion shoot and edit. I liked that very much and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to present it than what they already had. Not to say that the movie didn’t have some parts that were “special”, like watching some scenes from George’s movies, “Merman” and “Re-do”.

Direction - Great 4.0

Dialogue - Great 4.0

Music - Great 4.0

Visuals - Great 4.0

Edge - Risqué 2.0

Friends sleeping with crushed, men sleeping with married women, getting punched in the face by an Australian, and (guess what) BOOBS! Sorry, look, it’s been a while since I saw a new movie with a set, so I’m kinda happy for some of the guys and girls out there.. not here’s the downer.. they weren’t very flattering and there aren’t many, sorry again. But hey, they were young. It’s a good flick if you like that sorta thing.

Sex Titillating 1.9

Violence Fierce 2.1

Rudeness Salty 2.0

Reality - Natural 1.0

I can see a famous person of any sort, come out of their million dollar mansion one day and say “my life sucks” or " I’m lonely", that happens to a lot of us average joes out here. But it’s nice to see a movie that puts a bit more emphasis on the fact that it’s not as uncommon as some of us may think. Famous people need love and friendship too ya know. But hey, at least we got a few laughs on the way, so check it out and think about it, how would you act if YOU thought that you were going to die soon?

Circumstantial - Natural 1.0

Biological - Natural 1.0

Physical - Natural 1.0

    Regarding izzio’s Review
I’d have to disagree, Sandler and Rogen had very good comedic chemistry. However, I agree on the film being too long. I thought they could’ve cut it down a little bit.
