BrianSez's Review

Summary - Very Good 3.5

Reminiscent of 1984 and Blade Runner, but with the modern action effects of the Matrix. Equilibrium delivers a futuristic totalitarian society riddled with internal struggles of the coolest killer around: Christian Bale. Not too cheesy despite a couple of close calls (daily doses of “Prozium” to calm the masses? Puhleeze), and in the end a very entertaining sleeper.

Acting - Great 4.0

Christian Bale was made for the role of John Preston. Calm, cool, collected at one moment; and genuine emotion the next. Deft maneuvers without too many slow-mo renditions made it possible to really enjoy his uncanny ability to kill under overwhelming circumstances.

Film - Very Good 3.5

Great action sequences, poetic discourse with an authentic appeal, big music, artistic cinematography, and Orwellian environs without too much of a “low budget” feel. Good balance with solid character study. Not too shabby of a blend for this type of film.
