I’ve only seen 4 movies this year: Shutter Island, Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, and Hot Tub Time Machine. 2 of these proved to be dissapointing(Alice and Titans) and 2 exceeded my expectations(Shutter Island and HTTM). Of these 4 movies, Hot Tub Time Machine was the biggest surprise. When I saw the trailer and the mere title of the film, I wasn’t too excited and decided to pass. However, I caught a wiff of some good reviews and great buzz and decided to check it out. WOW! I’d say this surpasses last year’s The Hangover in terms of great laughs and gross out humor. This movie was side splittingly knee cap bustingly scrumdidilyumptiously hilarious!!
If you expect me to tell you the plot, forget about it! The title says it all! But here it is: Four guy friends, all of them bored with their adult lives, travel back to their respective 80s heydays thanks to a time-bending hot tub-Courtesy of IMDB.com
Hot Tub Time Machine is similar to Wild Hogs except for one major difference: Its actually funny! Providing a ton of great gags and a fine comedic cast to go along for the ride, Hot Tub Time Machine is the sleeper hit of the year that should likely get a cult following for years to come.
The cast does a fantastic job. John Cusack(also a producer) is great as Adam, the leader of the pack who thinks the future is not going well for him. And Clark Duke is equally funny as Adam’s nephew, the nerdy Jacob. Craig Robinson provides great support as Nick but the real star is Rob Cordry as Lou, the slacker alcoholic who’s given up on life. The only actor who doesn’t shine is Chevy Chase, who obviously did this just to pay the bills and is given very little to do.
There’s also hilarious cameos from 80s star Billy Zabka and Crispin Glover(as a one armed bell hop who’s missing arm becomes the movies’ best joke).
As I said in the summary, this movie surpasses the Hangover in terms of shocking, gross out, and totally disgusting humor. Its violent, raunchy, and VERY inappropriate for the younger set.
Its time travel, folks.
Definitly check it out, Wick. I was surprised to see how truely funny this film was.
Regarding MetalJunky5000’s Review
Huh. I was undecided about this movie, but now am looking forward to seeing it. Saying it’s funnier than The Hangover is high praise indeed.
