Johnny Depp takes us on the interesting journey that is George Jung’s life. Witness the mind of a natural businessman seize the all the opportunities that trading in drugs has to offer. From dime bags of pot on California beaches to kilos of cocaine work millions, this epic drug biopic shows just how all this got started. Fantastic acting, plenty of crime/action/drama, and a fascinating story make this film thoroughly entertaining.
So many great performances: Johnny Depp shows great versatility even at his young age. Penelope Cruz is a swirling mass of latin dramatic energy. Ray Liotta, often the bad guy in films, is the understanding and guiding father. Rachel Griffiths is surprisingly good at the tormented mom. Paul Reubens (yes, Pee Wee) is fantastic as a gay hairstylist that provides a steady stream of customers.
The movie felt a bit long, but there was a lot of story to tell. A great blend of character study, story, and action delivers non-stop enjoyment.
Drugs, sex, and violence – its all there.
Yeah, it all happened.
Regarding BrianSez’s Review
Looks like a solid find, Bri. I hadn’t realized Penelope Cruz was in it.
