A tasy little drama that was co-directed and co-written by Stanley Tucci, about a small Italian restuarnt owned by two brothers, Primo, and Segundo. Although they are excellent cooks, they seem to always fall in the shadow of the competitor down the street, who offers inferior food, but always seems to be crowded. The brothers decide to host a famous jazz singer in one final attempt to draw attention and stay in business.
The film itself is a drama about the trials and tribulations of small, family owned restaurants, and how difficult it is to offer a product in a competitive market. Yet, we also see a wonderful collection of characters come together to celebrate life, while enjoying delicious looking food. The never ending battle to stay afloat in a sea of mounting bills, is balanced by wonderful subplots involving love, brotherly resent, and the pursuit of the American Dream.
You’ll watch this film and want to know the recipes for the food you see.
Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub are wonderful, and give just the right amount of brotherly love and hate that exists in a small family business. Each of them recognizes thier individual talents, buting coming to a consensus creates the dramatic tension that propels the film.
Authentic feel to the restaurant and kitchen scenes make you feel like pulling up a chair at the table and placing an order.
