Summary - Good 3.0
A mildly amusing film about teenage kids of a lesbian couple who search out their sperm-donor dad. Strong performance from Annette Bening as Nic, one of the "Moms,†and Mark Ruffalo as Paul, the donor dad, make this an above average film.
Although the film garnered a lot of interest because of the portrayal of a lesbian couple, it really had more to do with the children’s integration of Paul into the family’s life. The balance in relationships and attention dramatically shifts with the introduction of him, creating betrayals, and temptations.
I did not have too many laugh-out-loud moments for a film that was supposed to be a comedy. In fact, I found some of the parts to be rather intense portrayals of typical family struggles, which have been well covered in other films.

Mark Ruffalo is very laid-back and likeable in this film.Female Stars - Good 3.0
Annette Bening is great in her role as one of the two moms. Julianne Moore shows some nice range in her portrayal of a woman looking for validation and attention in a busy household.Female Costars - OK 2.5

I agree Wick. I was debating with a friend yesterday if the movie would have recieved the same attention if it did not feature two moms. What would have happened if the premise involved a straight couple? Interesting thought.

Regarding BigdaddyDave’s Review
Accurate review BigD, mostly in-line if a bit tougher than mine. The fact that this movie was nominated for Best Picture and Best Screenplay Oscars says more about Hollywood politics than it does about the quality of the movie.
