Terrifically well acted by a bevy of single-name movie stars (Damon, Jolie, De Niro, Hurt, Baldwin, Pesci), and more than competently directed by De Niro himself, this is a high quality – albeit long and fictionalized – exploration of how the CIA found itself at odds with the values of the America it was created to protect.
Several rushed, shadowy couplings, most notably between a lushly fecund Angelina Jolie and a naïve Matt Damon. Of course, Angelina Jolie is such a to-the-manner-born movie queen that she would produce at least a 1.5 sexiness rating simply reading the phone book.
New York liberal De Niro seems relatively restrained in his fictionalized take on the CIA. Including actions long part of CIA lore seems fair game, e.g., prisoners jumping out of windows after receiving LSD as a truth serum and water boarding. Matt Damon’s character is apparently a composite, means liberties were taken, including the kind of happenstance that only emerges from Hollywood, e.g., intertwined family and romantic dramas leading directly to a major foreign policy debacle.
Regarding Phillip’s Review
Um, the actors were good with their acting? But the other actors were pretty plain? You may wanna be more specific.
Regarding Wick’s Review
Yep, first review I posted after the Alpha version of WikPik went live in Summer ’07.
Thanks for reminding me MJ. I like going into old reviews to tighten the commentary, or to add a WikChip, since WikChips weren’t available until last year.
Regarding Wick’s Review
So, Wick, this is where it all began lol
